Changes

yH76arvey had an appointment with the child Psychiatrist at his new school today, an autism specialist. (How great is it that they have an autism psychiatrist right there, at their school, constantly in contact with the teachers, seeing my kid twice a month, and whenever else I need it? Taking Harvey in to his pediatricians office, just to get a referral to some may-or-may-not-know-what-he-is-talking-about psychiatrist in salt lake city, who rushes me through his office in fifteen minutes, is pretty much a nightmare. Dr. Cisternos spent an hour and a half with me today, and after she was done evaluating Harvey, his teacher came and took Harvey into his classroom for the rest of the time, so that I could sit down and talk with the doctor. ) As of today, September 1, we are going to be doing a trial of 2 Ml of Trileptal. He is too young to take traditional ADHD meds, but she thinks this trileptal will help him slow down enough to learn better. Overall, she was much more concerned about the ADHD than the autism. In one month, if I don't see any unwanted side effects before then, we will give him a liver test and discuss whether we want to keep it up. Say a prayer that Trileptal will help him.

He officially starts class on September 8. (Although he has been going part time to their summer program.) We are all counting down the days, especially Harvey.

Jed and I are also all registered to start back at school. Jed is going to be taking a full class load...Yipes. I am taking some fluffy english classes. Should be fun. Maybe. But not so much if it cuts into my writing time, kwim?

Transition.

Yesterday the four of us were driving in the car. Jed and I were singing itsy bitsy spider to Grey, because Grey loooovves itsy bitsy spider. Harvey started screaming at us to Stop! Stop! Quiet!, as per his usual, because Harvey hates singing. And Jed said "Why Harvey, why don't you want us to sing?"

And Harvey said " IIIIII waaaaaant...STEGOSAURUS SING-A-SONG!"

Jed and I looked at each other in amazement. Could Harvey really be asking for a song? We didn't actually know any stegosaurus songs, but Jed was not about to let this golden moment pass us by. He made up a song on the spot. A stegosaurus song.

And then Harvey said, "and a brachiosaurus."

And lickety split, Jed added a brachiosaurus, taking a hit from the "big, big spikes" of the stegosaurus tail.

And then Harvey said, "And a dinosaurus Rex."

So Jed added a dinosaurus rex to the song. And then an allosaurus, and a triceratops, and an acrosaurus, and an argentinosaurus.

And everytime Jed came up with something particularly good or gory in his song, Harvey would nod his approval and say "yeah, yeah, good job, Jeddy."

Jeddy will have to teach the songs to Harvey so they can have a duet going on those nap time drives.
